Archives for September 2011

And the show goes on …

This is another one of my collages for sale at our exhibit Unforeseen Circumstances still on at the Collective Works Gallery in Fernwood, one of Victoria’s popular neighbourhoods where you can stroll around, eat, drink, and view art.  It’s also where I live!  We were very pleased with the attendance at our opening on September 24 and enjoyed talking with our guests about our work. Putting on an art exhibit is a huge job.  Most importantly you have to do the art then there’s the task of securing an exhibition space and it goes on from there until you set up the food table and pour the wine anticipating the arrival of your supporters!  I’m waiting for some photos and will post them as soon as I can.  Thank you to those that came and if you haven’t seen this exhibit yet, I hope you make the time to do so as I’ve left a piece of myself behind.

Down to the wire

There are only a few days left before we install our show “Unforeseen Circumstances” at the Collective Works Gallery here in Victoria.  As well as framed pieces and a wall hanging I will also have 20 unframed 5-1/2″ X 8-1/2″ collage pieces for sale one of which is shown here.  I hope to see you on Saturday from 2 – 5 pm!

Work in progress …

Yikes!  There are only 12 days left before my next show and I am still working on some pieces to be included.  So what else is new?  My creative juices seem to flow fast and furious as the deadline approaches.  In this image I am working out a prototype for one of the pieces in this show, Unforeseen Circumstances, opening Saturday, September 24, 2 – 5 pm at Collective Works Gallery.
Click on the show title below
which will bring up our classy invitation designed by Alice.  Cheryl, Alice and I have been planning this show all year so we hope to see your smiling faces there to show your support.  (or come by another day before October 13th).

Elements of design in nature

Being Labour Day there was no rush to get to work or out of the house for anything else.  So later this morning John and I put the kayaks in the water near Oak Bay marina and went for a little shoreline paddle towards Cadboro Bay and back.

You can always find the elements of design in nature as in these photos of a kelp bed we passed through.  Take a moment to look at the lines made by the long kelp tails, and the round bulblike shape that floats above the water.  Could you mix paint the colour of the kelp or the luminous quality of the water?  One kelp plant has many sizes; the bulb, leaves and tail.  And the texture is interesting; both tactile and pattern as well as the lines made by the movement in the water.  You can also see the different values throughout the photo with the depth of field from the bubbles on top of the water and down into the deep as the leaves flutter with the current.  Ahh … it’s great to have a day off and get out to enjoy nature …
