“Varied” Edition of Etching Prints

“Pink Party Dress” Soft Ground Etching with Chine Colle & Calligraphy

Back in September I took an etching workshop with Alain Costaz of Ground Zero Printmakers.  I created this 4″ X 6″ plate in the workshop.  The reference was from a photo I had taken in the spring from a sidewalk display on Fisgard Street in Chinatown of little chiffon dresses.  I really wanted to work with this image and I was very pleased with how the plate came out!

The above print, “Pink Party Dress” was printed with a red etching ink and I used a pink mulberry paper that I purchased from Opus for the chine colle.  I printed a few on 12″ X 12″ paper and planned to frame them in the same size white wooden frame.  I have donated this print to a breast cancer fundraiser in Victoria, “Essential Elements of Style” being held October 14, 7 pm, at the Atrium downtown Victoria.

Then I did a few variations with the chine paper the same size as the plate, as above, and some with a smaller piece of the same pink paper as shown below.

Another version of “Pink Party Dress”

Now I will backtrack to show you the prints I did in the workshop with Alain.  Here is one using three colours which I think looks quite intriguing!

I also tried a few prints using sepia ink with the intention of adding colour with watercolours.  I actually like them just as they are so I could do some of each; sepia only and sepia with watercolour.

It has been suggested that I call these prints a “varied edition”.  I will be creating 25 in total and very few will look the same.  I never seem to be able to follow the rules and like to experiment with unique ideas.  Hopefully others will also like what I create!
